Usui Goes To The Mountain to Find the Secret...

When Usui was roughly 60 years of age, he found a famous Buddhist sutra (writing). He decided to chant it along with doing a 21 day fast.

Usui went to Mt Kurama near Kyoto in Japan. This was, and still is, a sacred pilgrimage spot. To cut a long story short he fasted and chanted his sutra for 21 days. To tell you the truth most people have trouble fasting just one day... but Usui was just so keen to find this healing secret.

On the 21^st day of his fast on the mountain, Usui felt a presence. And with the presence came a blinding light.

The light entered him and he became unconscious.

After a while Usui awoke and saw the beautiful sky and natural scenery. Everything seemed so incredibly vibrant to Usui; for he had just had a profound spiritual experience.

Usui was excited, and started making his way down the mountain. He saw a food vendor and went to get a solid hearty meal. The vendor said, “I can see your beard has grown, you’ve been fasting up on the mountain. It is better to eat gruel to break your fast”, But Usui insisted on eating proper solid food... Amazingly, he suffered no ill effects even after fasting for 21 days.

After that he ran excitedly down the mountain to tell what happened when he tripped and fell, taking some skin off himself. It was bleeding profusely. Usui put his hand there and the bleeding stopped almost immediately. It was incredible, was he dreaming? He was becoming even more aware of the incredible gift he was given while he was up on the mountain.

Later that day Usui saw a friend whose daughter had a terrible toothache. He placed his hand on her face and the pain left. They were very happy.

Amazingly, Usui decided that he should not only keep Reiki only for his own family… He decided to make Reiki available to everybody!
